Position Description

Lubrication Laboratory Technician (Specialty in Organic Materials Analysis) Major Job Responsibilities Provides laboratory analytical support on materials and processes for manufacturing, engineering, and customers to resolve and prevent problems Perform materials analysis and supports technical investigations, operate analytical equipment, and generate test reports Writes and maintains laboratory procedures per quality systems requirements under the supervision of senior materials engineer Coordinate and perform equipment calibrations and verifications, as required Procures samples for test set-up and materials testing Sets up and operates test devices and measurement tools Assists in design and analysis or research on engineering projects Frequently exchanges information with others both inside and outside the work group Adheres to safety protocols and maintains acceptable housekeeping standards Work with and mix chemicals, acids, solvents, etc., as needed 

Skills Required: 
• Understanding of organic materials related to engineering theory and principles of design
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and perform common mathematical computations
• Familiarity with basic hand and machine tools
• Ability to use common measurement tools and techniques
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
• Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions based on interpretation of test results and gathered data
• Knowledge / experience in conducting testing, and analyzing results on organic materials: Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, cone penetration, SRV, aniline point, flashpoint, 4-ball wear test, viscosity, particulate analysis, and others 

Skills Preferred: 
• Knowledge of organic materials (plastics, elastomers, lubricants, and adhesives), and their characteristics
• Thermal analysis including DSC, TGA, and TMA
• Familiarity with quality systems such as IATF / TS 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 17025

Experience Required: 
5 - 10 years of relevant experience. 

Education Required: 
• Associates degree or bachelor’s degree with a technical major (chemistry, engineering, etc.) or equivalent experience
• Proficiency in the usage of a computer and computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
• Experience or training in research and problem-solving methodologies
