Position Description

Responsible for obtaining materials, components, equipment, and services. Verifies requisitions, obtains quotations, examines bids, and makes awards. Develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are inadequate. Coordinates purchasing activities with departments. As required, monitors the cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value. May evaluate vendor reliability. Purchase specifically assigned productive and / or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling and services. Work involves a number of operations where decisions are made based on general policies, procedures and/or specifications. Assist the Sr. Buyer in purchasing productive and non-productive materials and services. Work independently with decisions made based on established policies and procedures. Responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, and supplies from vendors. Evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers.

Skills Required:

Oral and written communication skills. Ability to read blueprints and understand basic engineering documents. Knowledge of commodities, materials and products being purchased. Relatively high level of analytical ability where problems are complex. Medium level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
